Lower Blepharoplasty
Lower blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that reduces the puffiness, bags and excess skin of the lower eyelid. At Celikkaya Clinic in Cyprus, Dr Kemal Celikkaya, a German board-certified plastic surgeon and UK GMC-registered doctor, performs the procedure. Where the concern is puffiness or under-eye bags, he can place the incision on the inside of the lower eyelid, so there is no visible external scar.

What Lower Blepharoplasty Treats
With age, the lower eyelid tends to change in two ways. The small fat pads that cushion the eye can push forward and create bags or puffiness, and the skin itself loses elasticity and begins to crease or hang. Lower blepharoplasty addresses both. The surgeon can remove or reposition the fat that causes the bags and, where needed, trim a small amount of loose skin, leaving the under-eye area looking smoother and less tired. Unlike upper eyelid surgery, lower blepharoplasty is carried out to improve appearance rather than to restore vision.
The Procedure and Recovery
Lower blepharoplasty at Celikkaya Clinic is a day-case procedure, so you return home the same day. The aim is to treat bags and puffiness, and the incision is made inside the lower eyelid, leaving no visible scar. Where loose skin also needs removing, a fine incision is made just below the lash line, where it settles into the natural contour of the eye as it heals. Some bruising and swelling around the lower lid are normal in the first week or two and settle gradually. As with any eyelid surgery, patients are asked to stop blood thinners three weeks beforehand and to cut back on smoking in the two to three weeks before surgery, and there is no strict upper age limit. Because the procedure removes or repositions the tissue causing the problem rather than masking it, the results are long-lasting, unlike temporary treatments such as fillers or Botox.
