Upper Blepharoplasty

Upper blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the upper eyelid, as needed. At Celikkaya Clinic in Cyprus, Dr Kemal Celikkaya, a German board-certified plastic surgeon and UK GMC-registered doctor, performs the procedure, placing the incision within the eyelid's natural crease so it heals discreetly.

What Upper Blepharoplasty Treats

As skin loses elasticity with age, the upper eyelid can develop excess folds that make the eyes look tired or, in more advanced cases, hang low enough to interfere with the upper field of vision. Upper blepharoplasty removes this excess skin and repositions the eyelid tissue, restoring a more rested appearance and, where vision was affected, improving the visual field.

The Procedure and Recovery

Upper blepharoplasty at Celikkaya Clinic is performed under local anaesthetic and typically takes fifty to ninety minutes. Patients return home the same day. Most take around five days off work, excluding the eyes themselves, with sutures removed after five to seven days, driving usually possible after one day, and exercise resuming after around two weeks. Full recovery is expected within two weeks. There is no strict age limit for the procedure, though patients are asked to stop blood thinners three weeks beforehand and cut back on smoking in the two to three weeks before surgery. Because the surgery addresses the excess skin directly rather than masking it, results are considered permanent, unlike temporary treatments such as Botox.
